PCC Dirt Squad Program 2024

The Peterborough Cycling Club Dirt Squad (previously known as Sprockids and Devo+) offers youth-focused mountain biking programs designed to develop sound riding skills, cycling etiquette and a lasting love of the ride.

We have a recreational mountain biking program for kids ages 6-17 to develop skills on single track trails.  Riders interested in learning more about racing, training and more advanced skill development should join the PCC Race Team (ages 8-17 years old).

 

PCC Dirt Squad Program (2024)

The Peterborough Cycling Club Dirt Squad (previously known as Sprockids and Devo+) offers youth-focused mountain biking programs designed to develop sound riding skills, cycling etiquette and a lasting love of the ride.

We have a recreational mountain biking program for kids ages 6-17 to develop skills on single track trails.  Riders interested in learning more about racing, training and more advanced skill development should join the PCC Race Team (ages 8-17 years old).

PCC Dirt Squad Registration Information:

  1. Registration opens on Wednesday April 3, 2024 @ 7pm
  2. Registration Application (and Wait List) will be created through a time stamped Google Form – Parent Name, Email Address and Number of interested Youth.
  3. There will be a check box to indicate the number of youth you are registering that are interested in being assessed for the Dirt Squad Team (Competitive Program).  
  4. The registration is first come first served with priority given to recent youth member participants that complete the Google Form within 24 hours of the registration opening. 
  5. Successful Registrants through the Google Form will be sent a code to proceed with program and insurance registration on CCN.  Registration is not complete until program and insurance registration are complete on CCN.   

Dirt Squad (Recreational Focus) 

The Dirt Squad program is designed to teach young people mountain bike skills and enable them to safely and successfully enjoy mountain biking. Mountain biking is about fun, adventure, adrenaline, and discovery.

  • Open to young riders ages 6-17 who must be able to ride on bumpy grass independently.  
  • Participants require a mountain bike with a well-functioning gear system, hand operated rim/disc brakes (no coaster brakes), and kickstands removed.  Please make sure your bike is in safe working condition prior to the beginning of the program. 
  • Riders will be grouped according to skill and fitness.

Dates & Times: Monday April 29 to June 17 (7 weeks) @ 6-7:30pm.  No practice on Monday May 20, 2024

Locations: 

  • April 29 @ Location TBA 
  • May 6-June 17 @ Harold Town Conservation Area, Old Norwood Road

Cost for program: $110 plus Ontario Cycling Community Membership (Insurance)*  

Required for Program: Mountain Biking Jersey ($40).  This purchase is only required for new participants or if you need another size of jersey. *Please try on your jersey from last year to make sure it fits*  

*Ontario Cycling Community Membership is only for recreation program members.  The cost of this membership varies based on age.  ($20 for ages under 8; $25 for ages 8-18)

PCC Race Team (Competitive Focus) 

 

The PCC Race Team is designed for competitive riders that are interested in learning more about mountain bike racing (and CX in the fall).  This program will focus on training for races and skill development on more intermediate/advanced trails with the goal to participate in various races around Ontario.  

 

Dates & Times: Monday April 29 to June 17 (7 weeks) @ 6-7:30pm.  No practice on Monday May 20, 2024

Wednesdays – will vary depending on race schedule between local practice or Woody Race Series (https://woodyraceseries.mailchimpsites.com/) in Uxbridge.

Locations: 

  • Monday April 29 @ Location TBA 
  • Mondays May 6-June 17 @ Harold Town Conservation Area, Old Norwood Road
  • Wednesday @Harold Town Conservation Area, Millbrook, or Woodnewton
  • Other training opportunities based on availability of coaches

Spring Cost for May and June training and support at races: $280 plus Ontario Cycling Compete or UCI Membership (Insurance)*  

Note: Summer & Fall training costs will be communicated in advance of those seasons and will depend on available opportunities.  

Race costs are not included in these programming fees.

Program Requirements

  • Open to riders with required skills and fitness, ages 8-17
  • Participants require a mountain bike with a well-functioning gear system, hand operated rim/disc brakes (no coaster brakes), and kickstands removed.  Please make sure your bike is in safe working condition prior to the beginning of the program. 
  • Participants in the program must be able to ride at a level where they understand gear selection, general bike handling skills and are comfortable climbing hills and riding singletrack trails.
