PCC CX on Sundays is back!

Fall is in the air. That means it’s time for the PCC Cyclocross season! Our weekly series runs from September 24 to November 19. We will even be hosting the PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS (Nov 12) right here in Peterborough!!!! (volunteers needed)

For those unfamiliar with the sport, cyclocross is a fun, challenging form of racing that requires both bike handling skills and fitness in equal measure. Races are usually at parks on mixed surfaces: grass, gravel, pavement, and sand. There is a course set up and the athletes complete several laps in a set period of time (30 and 40 minutes for our series). There are often obstacles or features that require riders to dismount and carry their bikes. Most racers use cyclocross bikes, but gravel or mountain bikes will work just fine.

We had some great mixed racing last year and will continue with the categories and start times we used last season. This means you may not always race with your age or gender, but with people your speed. It makes for better racing and more fun!

For athletes racing 40 min, the September 24 race is a qualifier to sort groups into start times. We strongly recommend you participate this Sunday to get properly seeded for the season. We will continue to have three start times: 9:00, 10:15, and 11:20 am. We will continue to have a Youth/Beginner Race at 9:00, 30 min in length. Intermediate to expert adults wanting to race 40 min will be sorted by speed between the 9:00 and 10:15 am starts. Finish times from the first race on September 24 will be used to sort riders. The fastest 60% will make up the 10:15 am start. The rest will start at 9:00 am for future races. The 11:20 am start will continue to be the kid's (3-10yr old) start. See the tech guide below for additional details.

PCC Members require a cyclocross add-on to their membership to race cross. The small extra fee covers the expenses of the cyclocross season and allows us to have such a high level of events for our weekly series.

Interested but not so sure? Come out to the training day/clinic on the 17th to check it out. Any current PCC membership is required.
PCC kids and youth members 3-17 yr old can attend the Dirt Squad practice and race at no charge. Note OC mini membership is not valid for races, a OC race license will be required. For youth questions email youth@peterboroughcc.com.
