Chasing the dream.

Christian Ricci, is a promising (and fast!) young road and cyclocross racer and PCC member. We’re helping to spread the word about a great initiative to help see him compete in Europe this summer.

John Vieira of BicyclesPlus, gives us the details…

Dear Cycling Friends,

We are looking for your support in our efforts at helping send Christian Ricci to the Netherlands to Race with a Asfra Team, a Continental team (Link is in Dutch but I think it will translate) in Oudenaarde, Belgium, which is a Flemish province of East Flanders in the south west part of Belgium. (Chance of a Lifetime for Avid Cyclists) Oudenaarde is home town to many talented cyclists over the years, among them, Mario De Clercq, 3 Time World Cyclo-cross Champion, born in 1966, (Currently Team Manager Sun-Web) and Tour Rider Jan Bakelants born in 1966 (AG2R La Mondiale)

Christian has been invited to join the Flanders Team (Asfra Team) for June and July, and race with them as a Team Member several times per week, 3- 4 times in some cases. Flanders Cycling Team is an elite U23 team based in Oudenaarde, Belgium. They have a Very full Race Schedule and are serious contenders at each race.
This team has a very impressive Palmares and many podiums including some in Spring classics.

This invitation came as a result of Christian’s dedication to the sport and his demonstrated Winning abilities as a both a Road Racer (current Team Techy Kids) and ‘Cross Rider (Lakeside Storage) this past season.

Current racing Experiences and Successes include selection to the U23 (Under 23) Canadian National Team (2015), Selection to the U19 National track team (2014) and recently selection to Team Canada’s Elite team for the first UCI Cyclo Cross world cup in Iowa City, Iowa, at Jingle Cross. His best results include a stage win at the 2016 Tour de Syracuse Road Race, 2017 Presidents Cup Cross Cycling Champion, and Liftlock Cross Cycling Champion. As well as other victories in Junior and under 17 including two Provincial championships.

Christian is a Full Time Kinesiology student at UOIT (University Institute of Technology) and as many of you know works at Bicycles Plus and leads winter season Indoor Training Sessions (Some may have enjoyed these work-outs).

We think this young man has Promise and sadly Sports Canada is not overly engaged in supporting Young Cycling Hopefuls… So this is where You come in.

We are planning a Fundraising Dinner on Wednesday, May 30th at Bella Notte Restaurant in Whitby, ( from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Tickets are $200.00 per couple and include a four course Italian themed meal including wine, starter salad, four entre choices (fish and vegetarian), dessert choices and coffee. This is a family owned business serving authentic Italian cuisine. If you have dined here before you know how wonderful the Food and Atmosphere is, if not… You won’t be disappointed.

We have a private room booked with 25 tickets only.

Please come and join us with your spouse or partner. It will be a casual social evening, having a terrific meal with friends in Support of a Young Man’s Cycling Dream that we can all share in J

If you have a previous engagement (as some have) yet wish to contribute, we would be grateful for any cash amount you may wish to donate. J

Lastly, a great excuse to get out midweek and talk about cycling and enjoy a fine meal … and be home for the 11:00pm News

Please e-mail the store ( for tickets. You may purchase tickets from Bicycles Plus using your credit or debit card.

Thank you,
Chris O and John V.
