Although you wouldn’t know it….it’s spring!

I have ordered the sun to do its thing over the next couple of weeks so the pavement, dirt roads and trails are ready for action come Sunday, May 6th.

The PCC’s cyclocross series is bursting at the seams with action, so why not continue riding that same wonderful ‘cross bike this spring! Our 3rd annual Spring Classic will cover some roads that I bet many of you have rode your bike past many times and thought……”wonder where THAT road goes”. Now you can find out. Not surprisingly, it takes you on a journey that you won’t soon forget.

28km of pavement, 12km of classic Kawartha dirt road, and 11km of pure cycling adventure leave you with 51km of great memories and one seriously filthy kit. This is not a race, though some do like to ride it quicker than others. There will be riders of almost all levels, though some basic off-road cycling skills will definitely come in handy. The route is slightly different (easier) this year, as I’ve removed what I felt was the nastiest off-road section from last year.

Another change for 2018 will be the addition of a guided social / intro option. The kind, talented and ever-energetic Richard Higham will be leading a “no-drop” group along the course, so if you’ve been unsure if this race was for you in the past, it’s safe to say this is absolutely your year. Richard will be departing at 9:30am – 30 minutes before the rest of the riders.

2018 PCC membership is mandatory. I’ll be bringing a dunce cap for those crazy enough to show up without one. Tools and knowledge on how to fix a flat might come in handy too.

I have a small but mighty team of volunteers that are going to help out with setting the course up the day before, and take the course down after the race. If you would like to lend a hand to this great Kawartha cycling event please let me know.

    Route: https://www.strava.com/routes/12743467

Where: Mount Pleasant (easternmost end of Bland Line, near Hwy 10)
    Date: Sunday, May 6th
Time: Regular Ride 10am, Social ‘no-drop’ ride departs 9:30am
Distance: 51km (28km paved, 12km dirt road, 11km ‘beyond’ trails and goat paths)
Recommended Bike: Cyclocross w/ ‘cross tires

    Bring on the sun!

The weather is gorgeous but I’m hearing nasty rumours of even nastier off-road sections that make up some of this route. I’m going to head out in the next day or so to check on the situation. If we have to modify the route to make it rideable that’s what we’ll do.

    I’ll keep you all posted.

The weather over the weekend looks great. Hopefully we don’t get too much rain over the next few days.

I rode the entire Spring Classic course last night and it was great. Absolutely great. There were some short sections of mud, but nothing I couldn’t either ride around or ride through. We will likely get a bit more rain today and tomorrow, but Saturday is looking nice.

I have a crew ready to jump into action for setting the course up Saturday, as well as taking the course down on Sunday. If you would like to help please let me know – rob [at] equinoxinteriors.ca. Extra help is always appreciated!

    See you all Sunday morning!
